I attended a friend’s baby shower today. It was a good time out with other ladies and we were all glad to be there to spend some time with our friend, let her know how special she is and wish her peace, love, strength and grace for the journey ahead.
To spice things up a bit, we had three activities: the first was to fill in the blanks for some nursery rhymes, the second was to unravel the scrambled words that made up a list of baby care items, and the last was to guess the circumference of our friend’s loaded belly.
Yes… you guessed right! I won the first; another lady who’s a mother of twins won the second, and a lady who doesn’t yet have kids won the final. It’s easy to understand how we won the first two prizes. We’ve been there and done that! We have the experience, but how about the third prize?
Well, they had a strategy. Now I say they because two smart friends teamed up to achieve this; one of them, an experienced buyer of fabric. They decided to cut their strips at varying lengths – one short and one long – such that there was an increased likelihood that one of them would win the prize, then they would share the reward; and it worked.
The power of team work! I keep seeing the benefits of team work everywhere I look; big teams, small teams… and of necessity, GOOD teams. Team work is good work! You can achieve more, increase your returns, minimise your losses by sharing risks, and much more.
If you hate working in teams, you might want to reconsider. There is a lot to gain.
