It’s the most wonderful time of the year and I am enjoying every day of this season although it comes with a lot of cooking and cleaning. I like meeting up with family and friends and sharing fun times… and the gifts, ohhhh the gifts. I enjoy wrapping up at least one of the things each child asks for, labeling it and leaving it under the tree for them to discover on Christmas Day. You can’t beat their excitement and happiness when they open them. The whole gift finding process is a little easier now that they can tell you exactly what they want – no mind reading required.
Some organizations try to spread the love and joy of the season in one way or the other. The City of David (COD), Eket organized an outreach to the surrounding community during which food items required to make a complete pot of jollof rice were given to 300 families. Fantastic! I think everyone should endeavor to reach out in their own special way and put a smile on someone else’s face.
As we gear up for the festivity and enjoyment, I remember the message in the presentation by Acts 29, the drama department of COD. It was simple – Jesus is the reason for the season, and if you leave Him out, your celebration will not be complete. That’s why I titled this Christmas Core. I will keep that in mind and try not to wake up and rush off to put the turkey in the oven, decorate the cake or prepare the fried rice. I’ll be sure to sing Him a song or two from my heart to show how much I appreciate the sacrifice He made – leaving His majesty, authority and Godness to take the form of man, His creation, so He could completely experience our humanity and become able to sympathize with us and understand our weaknesses and temptations, and eventually pay the ultimate price to redeem us. I will be grateful for this and for a whole year of peace, favor, preservation and provision. His mercies are indeed new every morning.
I hope you too will make room for Him.
Happy Celebration & Merry Christmas in advance.
