Nathan loves his Sonic Racing game. He’s become a master at it and almost every time, he finishes first, earning points, icons, badges, money and stars. The few times I tried to race with him, I didn’t do so well. In spite of my effort, I finished tenth… out of ten competitors. Hmnn… This is serious.
This really shouldn’t be a surprise. You see, Nathan knows all the gadgets built into each car to help its driver outrun others and he has become proficient in using them. The exact opposite is the case with me. Why then should I expect any applause or compliment for my poor performance simply because I put in a lot of effort? I’m sure the designers of those cars would be very displeased about how I make them and their product look bad.
But think about it… This is quite the scenario when we go ahead to live like ordinary people although God has equipped us with more than enough resources to live extraordinary lives. The gift of faith, the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge… These and other gifts of the Spirit are available to us.
What are we doing with them?
